Spending hours on the couch while nursing baby or giving her a bottle can be hard when you’re used to being more active. Of course you love gazing at your new baby, but after a while you might need a little extra stimulation. And as any new parent can tell you, those first few months are all about feeding and helping her gain the weight that’s necessary for her growth. Here are a few things you can do while feeding baby, and a few things that make feedings easier.
Read a Book
Book worms soon learn that having a novel on hand is a great way to pass the time while feeding a new little one. You’ll find ways to prop the book up, or use paperbacks that you can hold with one hand. Plus, a book is great because it lets you escape the routine for a few minutes!
Whether you watch them on demand, on television or from your own personal film library, movies and television shows are great for the first few months. Have the remote handy and keep the volume down to get the most out of your session. You’ll also want to have a comfy place to sit.
Catch Up with your Partner
While baby feeds, you can absolutely spend time quietly chatting with your partner about the day. It can be relaxing to sit back as a family and enjoy some non-active time just talking. Just be sure to keep the subjects neutral and the vibe relaxing. You can set aside other time to make important decisions or discuss things that require more attention.
This one comes last, because it probably comes natural to many parents nowadays, to have their phones and tablets on at all times. When all else fails, you can of course scroll through your Facebook or Twitter feed, just make sure it doesn’t take over your life.
And while we are on the subject of feeding, these items will make feeding easier and let you read your book (or whatever you decide to do!)
- Comfortable baby bibs to avoid messes
- A firm nursing or feeding pillow
- Burp cloths
- Baby blanket to keep baby swaddled
- Glass of water for you to stay hydrated
Enjoy feeding time with baby with these ideas.
