No one enjoys a rainy weekend. But, even if every day of the week has been sunny, you can bet the weekend will be overcast and wet. Just great. Still, to stop that rain dampening our spirits, many of us still resolve to do something fun as a family. After all, there are plenty of fun things to do when it’s raining, too.

There’s just one issue; many rainy day options cost a lot. Whether it’s going to see a movie or hitting the shopping mall, the rain can soon rain on your finances. And, when you’re trying to save money, that’s the last thing you want. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are plenty of wet weekend options which won’t break the bank. And, to prove the point, we’re going to consider some of the leading contenders.

Visit a Museum

When it comes to cheap we weekends, it doesn’t get better than a museum. Most are free, and even those which charge are cheaper than you’d imagine. As such, you’d be mad not to make the most of this. Many of us mistakenly assume our kids wouldn’t find a museum interesting. But, that’s often not the case. Kids have a thirst for knowledge we can only dream of. Seeing historical artifacts is sure to satisfy that need. You may even be able to find a science museum which provides the opportunity to carry out experiments. Any child would grab a chance like that with both hands. So, make sure museums have a place on your list.

Book an Escape Room

While not free, an escape room could be another fantastic way to keep the family happy. This reasonably new entertainment will see you locked in a room with 60 minutes to escape. The short-term nature of this option makes it a cheap pick compared to many activities. Yet, the whole family are sure to have a fantastic time. What’s more, booking for midday ensures that one hour fills your whole day. So, it’s well worth giving this a go.

Go Swimming

Again, swimming isn’t free. But, it’s a cheap way to spend a fun afternoon. You’ll be wet already, after all. Why not jump in the pool and at least have fun getting damp? An indoor pool means you won’t even have to brave the weather. Some pools do offer better prices than others. If you choose wisely, it’s unlike you’ll need to pay for any kids under three years of age. Shopping around can also help save on the already minimal fees you’d pay for yourself and your older children.

A Final Word

Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean your weekend has to be a washout. Nor does it mean your money needs to go down the drain. Instead, get creative. As you can see, there are plenty of cheap ways to have fun, and this is by no means an extensive list. Whatever you do, don’t let the wet weather keep you locked inside!
