If your child has already developed acne scars, then treatment is essential. However, there are several types of acne scar treatments in Singapore. To choose the right one for your child, you need to first understand the different types of scars.
After all, different techniques and methods will be used to treat different types of acne scars.
There are 4 main types of acne scars. These include:
- Ice-pick scars – these are deep scars that look like dots on the face
- Boxcar scars – these are wavy scars that appear like bumpy roads on the face. They have defined and sharp edges.
- Rolling scars – these look like boxcar scars but the edges are much smoother.
- Hypertrophic scars – these are acne scars that protrude upwards from the skin.
While there are different types of acne scars treatments, most work by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen. As a result, the skin becomes smoother.
Acne Removal Treatments
Let’s consider the different types of acne removal treatments in Singapore.
1. Laser Treatment

The heat from the laser stimulates the skin to produce more collagen. This causes new cells to form on the scarred area which pushes up the depressed skin. 4. Chemical Reconstruction
Chemical reconstruction involves the use of chemicals for acne scar removal. Traditional methods would remove the top layer of skin. However now, a chemical called TCA Cross is applied to the acne scar. This removes the skin in the scar stimulating the body to produce more cells and collagen which then closes the skin.
The TCA Cross comprised of concentrated acid. Patients can see visible results in 2 or 3 days and require 3-4 days of downtime.
5. Subcision
If your child has much deeper scars, then you may want to consider subcision. Granted the procedure comes with a longer downtime compared to other forms of treatment but has the advantage of producing immediate results.
The doctor uses a needle to break down the collagen bands under the skin where there is a scar. This creates spaces under the skin where collagen and new skin cells grow. This type of treatment requires 1 week of downtime.
Will All the Scars Be Erased Using Acne Scar Removal?
Note that the above-mentioned treatments only work to improve the appearance of acne scars and the face. They will not produce 100% treatment and take back the skin to what it used to look like before the treatment.
Patients can expect to achieve a 50% – 90% improvement. The results will depend on factors such as:
