How to Keep Up with Housework and a New Baby

Cleaning with Kids

For new moms, it can often be difficult to keep up with daily responsibilities and house upkeep while caring for a baby that has just arrived. The house can often become cluttered and dirty as new mothers attempt to care for her little one. Fortunately, there are a few ways to keep up with housework while tending to a new baby.

Create a Schedule

Instead of overwhelming yourself with cleaning during the week, make it a point to create a schedule that prevents you from trying to do everything at once. You can create a routine that requires you to clean the bathrooms on Monday or wipe down the floors on Thursday. Delegating different tasks on each day of the week will make the household duties more manageable. Be sure to delegate to other family members as well. As a new mom, you should rest as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Hire a Maid Service

Hiring a maid service will allow you to have more time in your busy schedule and can help you to create a spotless environment without having to lift a finger. You can decide which day and time work for your schedule to ensure the service is provided when it’s convenient for you and your baby.

Use a Baby Carrier

Use a baby carrier while cleaning to ensure you can continue to hold your newborn as you dust or vacuum each day. Keeping your child on your chest or back will allow them to feel at ease as you stay busy and complete each chore throughout the week. You can also use a sling that will be easy for your baby to nap or nurse in as you get more done around the house.

Make Use of Nap Time

Determine the time of day your child takes the longest nap and utilize that time to wipe down the kitchen counters or sweep the house. Although you may want a bit of shuteye as the baby naps, cleaning can allow you to sleep easier at night knowing that the house is maintained and isn’t in disarray. You can also complete a few tasks before or after their bedtime when you aren’t interrupted and can get more done.

Although it can be a lifestyle change once your newborn baby arrives, there are several ways to continue maintaining a clean and tidy home. With the right tips followed, you can have peace of mind knowing your home is presentable and comfortable to live in each day.
