All babies get sick. It is just a fact of life. However we do not like giving our babies medication, especially over the counter ones. However we do not want them to be sick and suffer either. How can we make babies feel better without giving medication? Well, here are some natural ways you can make baby feel better:
In This Post:
Breast Milk
Breastfeed Often – Breast milk is a great asset for babies. Not only does it help to keep them hydrated and provides nutrition, but the antibodies they need to fight the germs are present in your breast milk. Breast milk also helps to break up mucus, preventing it from settling in the lungs or causing coughing.
Clear Nose
Removing Mucus – I know it is a bit gross, but babies need help getting the mucus out of their systems. Unlike older kids, they won’t be able to blow their nose. You can suck the mucus out or put breast milk up their nose. Like saline in older people, breast milk will help to thin the mucus and the baby can then swallow the whole thing and be able to breathe better.

Vapor Rub
Vapor Rubs – While store bough vapor rubs are not good for babies, you can make your own. A combination of essential oils and beeswax makes for a great vapor rub. Just apply to the baby’s feet and cover with socks. The feet are great at absorbing things and then it goes through the baby’s whole system.

Essential Oils
Essential Oils on Clothes – Since most essential oils should not be put directly on the baby’s skin, applying them to clothing or bed clothes works well too. Just a few drops can help to ease their breathing and help them sleep.

Cod Liver Oil – Some people swear by this! If you are breastfeeding you can take an extra-large dose and it will get to baby through your system. If you are giving them formula or the baby is older you can give it to them directly.
