One thing that many parents struggle with is choosing the best vehicle to get a young and growing family down the highway, and can be especially difficult if you have multiple children still in carseats. It can be a complex mess of available seating, fuel economy, overall vehicle price, and whether or not the car is even comfortable, no matter how many seats it has. Amid the growing market of SUVs, minivans, and crossover vehicles, there are a few options which stand out for their comfort, roominess, and convenience, which make them perfect for families of multiples.

Ford Explorer

It’s one of the most popular sport utility vehicles on the market, regardless of family size, and that makes good sense. Ford has designed this midsize SUV to be both roomy and comfortable, great on fuel economy, and easy to drive down the road in a number of conditions. The vehicle can come with all-wheel drive, making it easier for families to get where they’re going in even the toughest conditions.

In addition to its roomy seating and interior comfort, the Ford Explorer can optionally come with a rear-set entertainment option. This allows parents to show their children their favorite movies on longer trips. It’s a great way to cater to both parents and their children, and this flexibility garners the Ford Explorer top honors among many new parents.

Honda Odyssey

The Honda brand is one of the most respected ones in America, and there’s a very good reason for that. Amid the battle for lower prices, cheaper materials, and greater ownership, Honda has remained steadfast in its commitment to high quality, great style, and extensive options. This results in a slightly higher initial price tag on its vehicles, especially compared to competing minivans, but it often means they’re more comfortable and they last longer for families who can’t afford to be buying a new vehicle every two or three years.

The Odyssey has one of the best fuel economy ratings of any minivan on the market, and it can come loaded with an entertainment system that will entertain all three rows of passengers in the vehicle on longer trips. It’s got plenty of cargo room, too, as the rear seats offer a split fold-down option that can increase storage space exponentially, while keeping seating to a maximum.

Ford Fusion

Those parents who aren’t in the market for a larger minivan or sport utility vehicle will likely fall in love with the Ford Fusion. It’s a mid-sized sedan that refreshingly comes in two models: a traditional engine and a hybrid variety. Families on a budget will appreciate the lower cost of the traditional model Fusion, while those willing to pay the premium price for a hybrid model will enjoy fuel economy that reaches as high as 41 miles per gallon on the highway.

The fusion, despite its mid-sized classification, is spacious and roomy inside. It’s got plenty of cargo space in the trunk and its rear seats can be folder for bigger hauls. Plenty of options can be built in, with the ability to add GPS navigation, enhanced entertainment options, and other desirable features.

Subaru Legacy

Subaru’s biggest selling point is that all of its cars come with all-wheel drive as a standard feature. This is great for residents of colder areas, as they can get all of the power of an SUV without all of the size, the lesser fuel economy, and seating that they simply may not require. The Legacy is excellent on fuel economy and is one of the most affordable mid-sized sedans on the market. Plenty of room is dedicated to both cargo space and leg room, making it great for the growing family on the go in the snow.

Of course, as with any family, needs and preferences may vary widely and these vehicles may not always meet the demands of everyone. However, they’re among the best and most popular vehicles for young families, and they offer the right combination of price, value, roominess, and comfort, to make journeys of all lengths feel short and enjoyable.
