                      | Hi, I have been needing to find all of you. My daughters
were born November 20,00 @ 27weeks. Haleigh (like Halle Berry) was
                        1lbs 14oz and Jenna was 2lbs 2oz. We've been so lucky
that they are both doing so well, but they sure put us
through a very tough time. Our expierience was nothing
like a rollercoaster ride. The girls always took turns
at giving us scares and they never had a good day
together until February 2001 when they were finally
co-bedded. We were at Childrens Hospital in Vancouver
B.C. for 4 months. My husband and I stayed in a
motorhome in the parking lot of the hospital. We were
lucky to be able to do that since Haleigh and Jenna were
our only kids. They were ventalated for about 2 1/2
months and Jenna came home on O2. They had all the usual
infections plus a viral infection that landed Haleigh in
isolation for three weeks. Our worst night was watching
as the doc's and nurses did C.P.R. to revive our little
Jenna when her ventalator got plugged. Our babies have
                        been...

                      | My daughter was born at 27wks. She weighed 2lbs. After a
bout with NEC she recovered and came home after a long
69 days. She weighed 4lbs. 5ozs. when she was released.
She is now 9 years old and perfect. In 1992, they didn't
give her much of a chance, but she proved them all
wrong. Melissa Darlene Nicole Barber July 23 1992.
Thanks for giving me somewhere to share my story.

                      | I am a single mother of boy/girl twins that were born at
26 weeks. Nicholas was 1#14 oz. and Julianne was 1#15oz. Julianne
                        came off the
vent after 1 week, Nic after 3. Julianne was fiesty from
                        the
beginning. She was born first, and did everything first.
                        (we all know
the routine) She just grew and grew and grew..... She
                        was discharged
at 34 weeks at 4#2oz and happy and healthy. never so
                        much as an
infection. Nic gave me a few scares (being a nurse and
                        knowing what to
anticipate is hard) but in the end, he came home at 35
                        weeks on a
small amount of O2 that he was off by 40 weeks. They are
                        now 14 months
old. The ped considers them back caught up
                        developmentally already.
They were baptized at christmas and it was a true
                        celebration to God
for the miracles I have been given. Thank you all for
                        sharing and God
bless you for strength and courage.

                      | My son Lucas Damien was born at 28 weeks but was the
size of a 24 weeker due to my placenta not functioning properly. He
                        was born on the
3rd of May 2001 at the Royal Womens Hospital in
                        Brisbane. He was
768gms which is a little over 1lb. Sadly he passed away
                        on the 2nd of
October in my arms he was 1 day off being 5 months old.
                        Lucas was a
little guy with a big personality and I am missing him
                        like crazy but
his lungs had deteriorated so bad that he just couldnt
                        make it on his
own. All I can say to others that are going through

there it will all be worth it in the long run.

weeks early at Children's Hospital in Buffalo. It's a trip because I
                        thought I was
doing everything right.Never would I have imagined that
                        I would deliver
my babies at 25 weeks.I thank the LORD that my boys are
                        fighting as
hard as they can right now.I feel so empty not having my
                        babies here
with me, but I trust they are getting the best care
                        available.Your web
site makes me hopeful. I never knew there were so many
                        people in this
situation.Thank you and everyone brave enough to share
                        their story. You
are definitely an inspiration to me.

                      | I am the Grandmother of twins that were born 26 weeks
gestation. Our twins had Twin to Twin Transfusion. One too little, one
                        too big.
God must have had a greater plan for our little Cameron.
                        Born at 14 oz.
he just wasn't strong enough to make it. He survived 15
                        minutes and
then passed in his Daddy's arms.
Jaylin, the larger twin was born at 1lb. 12 oz. I call
                        him our miracle
baby. He's fought the whole way. Like the other parents
                        have said it's
 been a roller coaster.
Jaylin's now a month old and almost ready to come off
                        his ventalator
 and nurse on his own.
 God Bless to all.

boys who came 7 weeks early. I am a respiratory therapist and was
                        terrified that they
would have several complications but they surprised
                        everyone. They
were only in oxygen for about 12 hours after they were
                        born, few tube
feedings and some apneic episodes(which were pretty
                        unsettling). they
came home 2 weeks later. That was quite a day. They
                        weigh 15 lbs.
each now and seem to be right on schedule with
                        everything. We are so
proud and Thank God everyday for our precious angels.
                        They are truly
God's great handy work and the loves of our life! They

                      | I gave birth to 8wk. premature identical twin girls on
Feb. 23,2001. They came into the world early because one of my twins,
                        Daielle, had
developed bi-lateral pleural effusions in utero. I was
                        given injections
of betamethasone for two days before the drs. had me
                        come in to see if
they could perform a thoracentesis(drain fluid from
                        chest cavity) which
ultimately was not completely successful. Danielle was
                        put on a
ventilator because her lungs were unable to fully expand
                        and develop
because of the fluid. She stayed on a vent. for 3wks.,
                        was in NICU for
2 months and came home on their due date. Emily was
                        perfectly fine but
had to be delivered because she was there for the ride.
                        She was not put
on a ventilator and only stayed in NICU for 1 month.
                        This was a scary,
emotional and hard to describe time for me. They are
                        growing well and
eat like two little piggies! They are needing physical
                        therapy for a
possible genetic and unrelated problem. Danielle is
                        getting RSV
 injections, Emily is n

                      | I am the mother of preemie twins. They were born on July
22, 2001 and I had aboy and a girl. The girl is the big sister, both
                        are 14 minutes
apart from eachother. It was very hard having my babies
                        so eaarly and
seeing how small they were and connected to all of those
                        machines in
 the NICU.

Now they are both home and are doing fine but my son was
                        send home on
an apnea monitor and on oxygen. We were told to not have
                        our babies
around large crowds and they did encourage us to take
                        our babies out
every one in awahile to get them used to being exposed
                        to the outside
 air.

My husband is alittle more hesitant about taking the
                        babies out. How
long did you guys last before you actually took your
                        babies out?

                      | Hi, my beatiful girls were born at 28 weeks on February
25, 2000 after 8 weeks of bedrest. They each had their struggles to get
                        well and gain
weight. Paige, the littler one, had to be trasferred to
                        another
hospital because we were told she had a defect in her
                        esophogus. She
did have a tear in her esophogus, so she was fed through
                        a tube in her
belly until the esphogus could heal. Peyton had trouble
                        with apnea, so
she came home with medication. Both girls were on apnea
                        monitors until
they were 6 months old. Today, they are 19 months old
                        and weigh over
19 pounds each. They are beautiful and busy toddlers.
                        Paige has
asthma like symptoms with a cold and they both get sick
                        easily. Other
than that, we have no problems from prematurity.

                      | My bestfriend had her twins yesterday morning at 29
weeks. Garrett weighs 3lbs 5 ozs and is 16 inches long and Trevor is
                        3lbs 6 1/2 ozs and
is 17 inches long. She went to bed like any normal night
                        and woke up an
hour later and discovered that her water had broken. Her
                        husband
rushed her to the hospital and she was all ready dialted
                        to 5cm. She
gave birth 4 1/2 hours later and the babies were born
                        naturally and were
only 5 minutes apart. They were rushed to the NICU
                        immediately and they
are both doing OK. I went to see them tonight and they
                        are so tiny.
They are both on oxygen and are not yet able to eat but
                        hopefully will
be able to be fed in the next few days. The doctor says
                        6 week minimum
stay so hopefully by Halloween the boys will join their
                        2 1/2 year old
sister at home who is anxiously awaiting to hold them
                        along with myself.

                      | Hi I have been looking at different preemie pages since
my little boy Jaden was born at 33.5 weeks. I didn't know I was in
                        labor. I noticed
that I was bleeding so I called the on-call doc. He said
                        it was up to
me if I went to the hosp. I chose to go to ease my
                        worries. When I
arrived, I was dialated to a 4 and my bag of water was
                        bulging. With
the help of mag sulfate I held off for 30 hrs. I had no
                        pain until the
last 2 or 3 hrs. Easy stuff for me. Jaden was born
                        weighing 5lbs 2oz.
He was enormous compared to what we were told to expect.
                        He had an iv
and nasogastric tube. He had jaundice for a week but
                        other than that,
he did great. The doc and nurses called him miracle
                        baby. He only
stayed in the nicu for 10 days and we were able to take
                        him home. He is
now 14mos and weighs around 23lbs. He hasn't stopped
                        eating since he
figured out how. I know how lucky we are to have had
                        such a healthy
baby. I really wish the rest of you luck with your

                      | My preemie twins Cody and Kate Lynn are four weeks and
one day old today. They are truly a gift from God.
Kate Lynn is doing wonderful. She is already on rm air
                        w/1/2ltr flow.
Her Oxygen levels have really been her only setback. She
                        has reached
three pounds as has her brother. She's on her way to
                        getting home.
Cody is a fighter. He has yet another type of sepsis but
                        it has been
caught early and he's being treated. His biggest fight
                        is against a
GRIII bleed. This is a wait and learn condition for me.
                        (And it
 worries and scares me)
I am so looking forward to getting them home. Time. This
                        takes time.
And support, which I have none.
 So, please mail me!

                      | Hi everyone my twin boys were born at 27 weeks weighing
in 1 lb. 10 oz. -&- 1 lb. 11 oz. Wow what a emotional rollarcoaster
                        the NICU was. They
were at the childrens hospital at Stanford, which is
                        about 30 minutes
away. Driving every day to see them for 4 and a half
                        months was
hard...but I just thank God that they are alive.
My boys are now 3 and although they are developmentally
                        delayed and one
has vision problems I still can't believe sometimes they
                        made it. All
these preemies are such troopers. A true insipation to
                        me. If anyone
out there wants to talk or just vent please email me
                        knowing I know
what it's like. That is often a frustrating feeling
                        since none of my
friends with kids really know what having a preemie is
                        like.

                        little troopers
who make it their buiness to light up our lives, even if
                        some only for
a short while. My best friend had a baby 4.5 months too
                        soon and he was
not even a pound. Aftre struggling for an hour he
                        decided he would be

                      | Thru the past 4 yrs of parenting my twin 4 yr olds, born
at 26 wk gestation, I need to tell parents of other preemies, it
                        is so important
that if you can be with them in the NICU it makes all
                        the difference,
they need to feel your touch and hear your voice. and
                        when they come
home never treat them different than a full term baby
                        take them to
early intervention find out what you need to work on and
                        do it. My
daughters were in intervention from 3mos until 18mos.,
                        they were
released at a 32mos level and they threw the doctors
                        threw a loop with
their milestones and strides. I never went by my girls
                        corrected age,
I always used their real birthday and I spend every
                        minute I can
helping them grow emotionally and intellectually. They
                        are now in
preschool and they are 2 of the smartest kids in their
                        class(if not the
smartest)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They know that they are special
                        but not
because they were preemies, because they are Jackie and
                        Jocie.
Although, the doctors will tell you your childr

                      | My daughters Jacqueline 2lb6oz and Jocelyn 2lb2oz were
born on August26,1996.,at 26 wks gestation. Both needed help
 breathing,jaundice,BPD,blood transfusions, apnea,etc.
                        Today they are
healthy 4 yr olds, I just wanted to add this to help
                        anyone going thru
this experience now. Until my girls were no longer on
                        meds I kept a log
of their meds, (they were on so many), I used 1 notebook
                        for Jocie and
another for Jackie so that there was no confusion. This
                        made a hard
situation alot easier. Mommies of preemies have alot
                        racing thru our
minds, and the log books helped me to know which child
                        had her meds and
who needed theirs. This also worked with feedings. We
                        tend to get alot
less sleep than parents of full-term healthy babies, and
                        dealing with 2
sick preemies the log really made a difference. Also, I
                        called the dr.
for everything, that is what he/she is there for so
                        don't feel you are

and Bless all of our children.

                      | Thank you for your story it brought back so many
memories of my experience with my daughters Jacqueline 2lbs6oz and
                        Jocelyn 2lb2oz and
their stay in the NICU. They were born at 26 weeks
                        gestation.
There was many a days I thought I was not going to make
                        it thru, but
seeing these 2 tiny little babies able to make it made
                        their mommy keep
 going.
Now they are 4 years old, they were born on August
                        26,1996., and
they are the joy of my life. I couldn't imagine if
                        things would have
turned out different were I would be without them in my
                        life.
 Thank you again,
 Jodi Bellomo

                      | My water broke at 24 weeks, and after 8 weeks of bed
rest Chloe Rose was born(32 weeker)at 5#6oz; but since I had no water
                        that 8 weeks she
was very sick. She had 3 blood transfusions, jandice,
                        hydrcephalos
(sp?),+ much more. The water on the brain was not
                        discovered till half
her brain was eaten up by the enlarged ventrical. She
                        came home on O2.
Her first 2 years required therapy for EVERY MILESTONE,
                        but she is
catching up. She is 25 months old -&- the joy of my
                        life. Her start
wasn't an easy one, but looking at her, you'r never know
                        it.

                      | My daughter Sara was born at 28 wks, 1lb 7oz on 1/14/92.
She came home 7/5/92 weighing 7lb 6oz. She had the usual preemie
                        problems; BPD,
severe reflux, Grade 2 bleed, kidney stones, etc. She
                        has had a
feeding tube since before she came home, and has yet to
                        learn to eat
properly. She will have to repeat kindergarten because
                        of learning
difficulties and has recently been put on Adderall for
                        her attention
problems. She now weighs 35 lbs at 6 1/2 yrs of age. I
                        read many
preemie stories on the net and would be happy to hear
                        from anybody who
 has similar experiences.

                      | The doctors didn't even think that both of them were
going to make it, but I delivered two beautiful little girls. Both girls
                        were doing
great within 3 days they were both in room air and they
                        started their
feeds. The only set backs were that Desiree had a heart
                        murmur and
Emily had a small case of jaundice. I received a phone
                        call on the 7th,
it was the nurse saying that Emily was a little sick and
                        that the
doctors thought it was an intestinal infection. When we
                        got there the
doctors said that she did in fact have NEC, they had
                        started MEDs but
they didn't seem to be helping. They made the decision
                        to send her to
surgery. She made it though surgery, but they had to
                        remove almost all
the small and large intestine. Which meant she probably
                        would have to
be fed intavenously for the rest of her life. In the
                        hour after
surgery she was again on a vent and they had to
                        recesitate her 3
times. We needed to make the hardest decision of our
                        life and we chose
 to remove the vent. Want

                      | Our identical twin girls Desiree Leslie and Emily Jean
were born on April 27, 2000. Desiree was the first to be born
                        weighing 3lbs 10 ozs
and Emily weighed 2 lbs 9 1/2 ozs. They were born at 32
                        weeks
gestation. I guess I should probably go back to the
                        beginning, I found
out I was pregnant in November of '99, which was totally
                        by mistake.
Then in December I found out we were having twins, my
                        doctor believed
they were monoamniotic (meaning they were sharing the
                        same amniotic
sac) so I had to change doctors. Then when my new doctor
                        did an
ultrasound they ruled that diagnoses out and they
                        thought I had stuck
twin syndrome which meant a second opinion and another
                        new doctor.
They sent me to a specialist in Grand Rapids which is a
                        45 minute drive
from where we live. He said I did indeed have stuck twin
                        syndrome, it
was caused by twin-twin transfusion. This was all
                        occuring in my 18th
week of preganany, from that time until my girls were
                        born I had 11
 amniocentisis. The doctors di

                      | Hi! I appreciated reading all of yoru stories. It is
really nice to know you aren't alone. I have two children. I went into
                        labor at 23
weeks with my son, but miraculously due to faith,
                        prayers and a
wonderful doctor he wasn't born until 38 weeks and was
                        absolutely
fine. It was a horrible four months, but the outcome was
                        worth it.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I was again having
                        a difficult
pregnancy, and at 31 weeks went into labor. It was
                        temporarily stopped
with bedrest and medication. Three weeks later, I went
                        into labor
again and spent the next eight days having mild
                        contractions every five
minutes while my doctor insisted that it was his policy
                        not to deliver
until 36 weeks. Finally he consented and allowed me to
                        have the baby
and Kyrie Nicole was born shocking everyone when she
                        tipped the scales
at 7 lb 1 oz. But she was not breathing and the NICU
                        team rushed her
away from me. Somehow they got her breathing and they
                        sent her home
with me the next day saying

                      | I'm so glad your girls both made it and that you put
together a site for preemie parents and others to visit. I know you
                        cherish your
children and that they are a great joy to you.

In looking through the guestbook, I am feeling, though,
                        like I'm the
only preemie mom whose baby did not survive who has come
                        to your site.
Maybe I'm just the only bereaved mom of a preemie who
                        still wants to
read about other preemies' stories...but to me each baby
                        is precious
and a miracle, and I am heartened to know that most
                        preemies do come
 home.

                      | Hello, our daughter was born at 23 weeks gestation at
Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto Canada. Suffice it to say that we
                        have had our
share of ups and downs but thanks be to God, all is well
                        and we are due
to come home any day now. To date, she has been in
                        hospital for 105
days of which the only major problems have been
                        respiratory. At the
moment we are trying to fix her eyes and then we are
                        homeward bound.
Thank you to all of the parents who have written stories
                        of support.
They have really helped us manage our very difficult
                        time.

                      | Hello, I just read your story and was brought to tears
as I always am with the preemie stories because they hit so close to
                        home. My
daughter was born on 11/11/99 at 27.3 gestation weighing
                        920 grams,
2lbs, almost 1 ounce. She came home on 2/4/00, she was
                        due on
2/13/00. It was (and I'm sure always will be) the
                        biggest nightmare of
our life. It's amazing how callous the doctors can be.
                        It still is a
struggle now, but more within ourselves than anything
                        else. Our
biggest complication now are her eyes. She had a
                        lensectomy in her L
eye and wears a contact lens in that eye daily. We are
                        very happy to
have her and she is a very spoiled little girl. :) :)

                      | My twins were born 7-21-92 11 weeks pre-mature. Brett
weighed 2lbs 15ozs and Bryce weighed 3lbs 7ozs. Brett was the
                        stronger of the two
and first born, eventhough he was a smaller. Bryce was
                        having a more
difficult time breathing and had to eventually be placed
                        on a
ventilator. Brett was moving right along being gavage
                        fed and gaining
weight, until 6 days after birth. The neonatalogist came
                        to us and said
that he was not digesting his feedings very well and
                        they are going to
back off until they have some tests ran. Brett laid
                        there getting
worse by the day. His once bright pink skin soon became
                        gray, his body
seem to be drained of energy, and his stomach very
                        distended. The
surgeon came in and said that he did not feel
                        comfortable with Brett's
down-ward turn and wanted to immediatley do sugery. He
                        told me about
the possibility of a colostomy (which I had never heard
                        of at the time)
and also the seriousness of the illness. Brett was then
                        rushed to
 surgery.

9oz and 3lb 12oz when i was 20 weeks preagnant the twins developed twin
                        to twin
transfusion syndrome which can be a really fatel
                        condition for twins
when the hospital told me i thought i might have to lose
                        them but after
more tests they allowed the pregnancy to carry on .then
                        when i was
32weeks i develiped pre eclampsia so i was in hospital
                        for two weeks
then on october the 7 i had a caserian the twins were in
                        special care
for two weeks but for the first day i couldnt hold them
                        because they
were in incubatosbut by the next day they were both out
                        of them and
 doing well.
The twins are doing ok now but they have a lactose
                        defficency and they

                      | I had a premature baby of 35 week gestation. He weight
4.5 pounds. He seemed to be fine at birth except for being small.
                        Within 48 hours
blood was in his stool and he was diagnosed with NEC. He
                        was rushed to
Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, GA for surgery. He
                        was not expected
to live two weeks. He underwent several surgerys and had
                        80% of his
intestines removed. He was also put on the liver/intestional
                        transplant
list in Omaha, Nebraska. My son lived almost 10 months
                        and was a
blessing with his smiles the entire time he lived. He
                        was unable to eat
by mouth and was I.V. and tube feed all his life. I
                        really would like
to do a survey to find out what causes NEC. Is it due to
                        preg., labor,
or something in the hospital nursery when they feed the
                        babies that
give them bacteria in their intestines that kill their
                        intestines.
Anyone, with similiar situations please email me.

                      | My girls were born 13 weeks early. We have been
extremely blessed. They arrived May 23, 1999, and came home Aug. 10th, 1999.
                        While my heart
goes out to those whom have had difficult times with
                        their preemies,
along with a certain indefinable guilt, I can't help but
                        thank God,
that my girls came through without any major
                        difficulties.

I was admitted to the hospital on May 3rd, with possible
                        pre-term
labor, while the monitor wasn't picking up any
                        contractions, I was
still effacing and dilating some, leading to a diagnosis
                        of an
incompetant cervix. I spent the next 3 weeks on bedrest
                        in the
hospital, and awoke at 6am the 23rd with some bleeding.
                        When hooked up
to the monitor, I had 5 contractions in 17 minutes. They
                        tried to stop
my labor unsuccessfully, as my water broke at 8:15am.
                        Delivery was
imminent. They gave me an epidural in case of a need for
                        c-section.
Took me (husband and my mother too) to the OR, and

                      | Hello, My name is Jennifer and I had a Premature baby
this year. As someone said here, you don't expect it. It was my 3rd
                        baby my first
born was 2wks early and my second baby was 2 wks late. I
                        was surprise
at 34 weeks when my water broke. I am glad I made it
                        that far. I did
vomit my whole pregancy, I gained only 16lb, ten were
                        within the last
week, and I had gestational Diabetes. I warned the
                        doctor the last week
something just wasn't right but she didn't listen. My
                        midwife checked
me (9am) 2/3/98 me the morning my water broke (7am)and
                        said nope I was
fine. I leak fluid all day thinking I was losing bladder
                        control. I
finally went back in to be checked again I was right! I
                        was admited at
11pm that night 2/3 with pos of water breaking. I never
                        went into
labor, make a long story short, I had a c-section on Sat
                        monring 2/7

                        for 18 hours
and only went to 3cm and baby still had not drop. The

 was about to give birth

                      | I went into labor when I was only 25 weeks pregnant. My
pregnancy had been ideal up until that point. Now that I think back on
                        that time, I
think I had been having bouts of pre-term labor for a
                        few months. When
I checked into the hospital, imagine my surprise to find
                        I was carrying
twins! Three days later I gave birth to two boys,
                        Nathaniel Vance and
Zachary. Zachary died at birth from a prolapsed
                        umbelical cord. Nate
is now 8 1/2 months old, is finally home from the
                        hospital and is doing
very well! Having a preterm infant isn't something you
                        ever think will
happen to you. It has been the wildest ride of our
                        lives, but we
wouldn't trade Nate for anything. Check out our web site

                      | I feel truly blessed and lucky when I read your story.
My son was born at 28 weeks on April 30, 1986. He was on the respirator
                        for a week and
did received a blood transfusion for anemia, but other
                        than that has
had few complications. He went home two months and two
                        days later. He
is now almost a teenager and has few residual effects of
                        his
 prematurity.

                      | we have twins born in March 97 at 28 wks. Allanah is
fine, but Miranda was diagnosed with cp in March 98, she is doing well,
                        commado crawling,
and talking some, thanks in large part to her sister's
                        constant
rambling! the girls spent 2 months in the hospital and
                        never had to
return, thank goodness. Miranda is invovled in Early
                        Intervention and
continues to improve on a daily basis.
