I’m a Survivor by Reba McEntire

July 8th, 2007 by kim

My daughter, Tatym, is a huge fan of the Reba television show. The show’s opening song is I’m a Survivor by Reba McEntire herself. I love to listen to the lyrics about her being premature and surviving, so thought I’d share…

I was born three months too early
The doctor gave me thirty days
But I must’ve had my mama’s will
And God’s amazing grace

I guess I’ll keep on livin’
Even if this love’s to die for
‘Cause your bags are packed and I ain’t cryin’
You’re walkin’ out and I’m not trying
To change your mind ’cause I was born to be

Chorus:
The baby girl without a chance
A victim of circumstance
The one who oughta give up, but she’s just
Too hard headed
A single mom who works two jobs
Who loves her kids and never stops
With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter
I’m a survivor

I don’t believe in self-pity
It only brings you down
May be the queen of broken hearts
But I don’t hide behind the crown
When the deck is stacked against me
I just play a different game
My roots are planted in the past
And though my life is changin’ fast
Who I am is who I wanna be

Repeat Chorus

A single mom who works two jobs
Who loves her kids and never stops
With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter
I’m a survivor

But I must’ve had my mama’s will
And God’s amazing grace

thanks for sharing the words to the song, I too enjoy watching Reba, I did not know that song was about her own pre mature birth. right now I have two new micro premie twin girls , born at 24 weeks and 5 days . They are in the Maine Medical Center NICU and they are strong fighters… Robin is now just a little over 1 pund ( 540 grams) and Joesephene is back at her birth weight of 650 grams…. they were born on August 5th and are now just 11 days old, its a day to day miracle as we watch them every day. The hospital is over an hour drive and her Mom and Dad go up every night… we have so many people sending prayers and well wishes , its so nice to know there are other happy ending stories to share… Julie’s ( the mom) pregnancy was going so great, each girl was in their own sack and placenta, no problems what soever and then Julie went into pre term labor after an exam at teh hospital as she thought she was leaking amni fluid but they said no and sent her home, I think she should pursue what the Dr at the hospital did.
