TV ratings were astronomically high for the Season 5 premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8  where Jon and Kate Gosselin discussed their much talked about marriage and relationship problems.

After Kate tearfully said ”Parents of multiples have triple the divorce rate, and [we were] thinking we were gonna beat that. But I don’t know if I can say that anymore,” my youngest daughter looked at me and said “that must be why you and dad divorced.” 

I do remember when my twins were preemies, the social worker told us we should seek counseling as parents of preemies have double the divorce rate. Add on the “parents of multiples” card, the “we married too young” card, and then there was the “my husband is cheating on me” card and we were doomed.  In this growing society and numerous card factors, it seems everyone is doomed!

I wanted to share the story of my twin girls.  After a very easy pregnancy, I suddenly went into labor at 23 weeks gestation. At 23 weeks and 6 days my first daughter was born (1 pound 1 oz), then at 24 weeks 3 days my second daughter was born (1 pound 5 oz), (yes 4 days apart).  Most of the doctors gave us the stats for survival and hinted towards just letting them go, but my husband and I could not do it.  There were a lot of ups and downs after that including one heart surgery, one eye surgery, and multiple infections. At one point they advised us to pull the plug on one of our daughters, she was really sick and her stats were really bad.  So we decided to have her baptized and shortly after the baptismal her stats started to come back up. After a very long 4 months spent in the NICU my girls finaly came home, just one week after their original due date. They are now two months old corrected age (6 months true age) and are doing very well.  They are now 13 pounds and 15 pounds and are healthy happy babies.  They still have a long road ahead to see if there are any long term effects, but if you look at them now you would never know they were preemies.  I now call them my angels as they are two beautiful little miricles.

On February 16th, 2009 our two bundles of joy were born, albeit 10 weeks early.  Both of our boys are doing great despite their being born early.  They were both born at approx 3 lbs and are now both over 4. They came home from the NICU on April 8th, 2009.  One of our boys is having a little trouble with his feedings, he just goes a little too slow while the other has a problem with apnea, bradys and reflux (all seem to be related).  

My wife and I have shared our entire journey on our own blog with our friends and family.  Thanks to the power of the internet others have found our blog and we have been able to share it with the world.  During our process so many other sites\blogs helped us understand the emotional and physical aspects of what was ahead and hopefully ours does\will for others.  Sites like this provide a wonderful service for those that may already have preemie twins and those who potentially may have them as well.
