March of Dimes Coin Collection Campaign

Posted by kim on October 28, 2006

Decades ago, millions of your dimes helped defeat polio. Today March of Dimes fights an even bigger challenge – premature birth. November is Prematurity Awareness Month. Click for more info on how you can help!

Fostering a sharing and caring environment at home is nothing short of difficult. Especially for twins, who are often times expected to be each other’s best friends, expectations can be overwhelming. Bunk beds for your twins can grant them individual spaces while still learning valuable lessons about compromise and cooperation. The bunk bed helps save space in the kids’ room while your twins work together toward a common goal, whether it be making the bed or deciding who gets to sleep on the top bunk. Comfortable, secure, stylish, and a space saver, bunk beds can also be a vital learning tool for teaching your kids an important lesson in cohabitation.

Preemie Communications, the parent company of Preemie Magazine, is proud to announce the first-ever Preemie Conference and Expo, to be held August 23-25, 2007 in Washington, DC, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The 2007 Preemie Conference and Expo is the first of its kind – bringing parents, professionals and vendors under the same roof at the same time. Stay tuned to this newsletter and the January-February print edition of the magazine for more information. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for additional information about the conference, send an e-mail and provide your name, mailing address, phone number, and indicate whether you are a parent, professional or vendor. I sent my email! I’ve never been to DC, so this will be a great opportunity!

Encourage Individuality in Sisters

Posted by kim on October 9, 2006

I remember as a young girl, my mother would sew matching dresses for her and I to wear to church.  I thought it was cool.  Nowadays, my girls would probably laugh at the thought of a such a thing as us dressing alike.  They’d probably laugh more at my attempt to sew.

When my twin daughters were little, I always dressed them in matching outfits.  I actually thought it was fun, and of course, they were oh so cute.  But as soon as they were old enough to dress themselves, their individualities came through, and they haven’t dressed the same since.  And since they aren’t identical, not even the same height, no one that doesn’t know them would ever guess they are twins.

One of my pet peeves is when mothers dress their daughters that are not twins in identical outfits.  I’ve always felt this way, even before I had twins – don’t ask my why.  You see this most when the sisters are close in age.  Does the mother secretly wish they were twins?  I think too far into things….

We appreciate this month's PreemieTwins.com sponsor of Gainsville AC service who helps us provide free resources for parents of premature infants and multiples.
